These projects are focused on understanding and testing innovative ways to equitably improve the delivery and impact of cancer care from screening to treatment. This individual will ensure planned qualitative and mixed methods evaluations for several implementation trials are successfully executed. This individual will work closely with the Deputy Director to plan, coordinate, and manage qualitative data collection and analysis. This person will be highly trained in a range of qualitative research methods and ideally have experience in cancer prevention and control. Finally, the Senior Research Investigator will be responsible for data analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and presenting research findings through various forums. This person must demonstrate the ability to analyze and present data in professional format and to be able to independently prepare manuscripts for submission.

Job Description

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, in partnership with the Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I) and Abramson Cancer Center (ACC), seeks a Senior Research Investigator to advance methodological development and implantation of qualitative and mixed methods for wide-ranging research projects in cancer care delivery and behavioral and implementation science. The position reports directly to Katharine Rendle, PhD, MSW, MPH, the Deputy Director for Research within PC3I. Founded at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, PC3I is embedded at the nexus of research and practice. Our mission is to create, test, and scale solutions to improve how we care for patients with cancer. We bring together diverse experts to improve health outcomes, increase healthcare efficiency, reduce cost growth, and apply the latest science to make cancer care better for our patients, providers, community, and partners.

The Senior Research Investigator will regularly meet with research staff and the Deputy Director to support and oversee activities related to the conduct of research. They will develop and conduct protocol and training to ensure research staff develop expertise in all related areas required to conduct rigorous qualitative and mixed methods research and enhance the scientific output of the Center. This person will be accountable for all aspects of qualitative and mixed methods research for assigned projects.

As part of PC3I, this person will build and strengthen relationships internally and externally to ensure appropriate collaboration and coordination across research initiatives and partners including but not limited to the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health, Penn Implementation Science Center mailto:(PISCE@LDI), Abramson Cancer Center, and Annenberg School for Communication.

The position is contingent upon future funding.

Requirements:

• Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree and 5 years of experience required
• Advanced training in public health, social science, health policy, or related fields
• Experience designing interview guides and conducting qualitative interviews
• Experience managing and analyzing large qualitative datasets
• Experience coding in Atlas, NVivo, or equivalent software
• Experience in writing and publishing qualitative and mixed methods manuscripts

Preferred:

• Experience in collecting and analyzing survey data
• Experience with qualitative comparative analysis
• Experience managing research projects
• Background in cancer prevention and control

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
