Post Doctoral Scholar – Cancer Center

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Public Health Sciences, and the new laboratory of Cheryl Thompson, PhD, Professor, and Associate Director for Population Sciences at the Penn State Cancer Institute, in Hershey PA is seeking a post doctoral scholar.

Projects will involve the study of genetic and environmental factors associated with cancer incidence and mortality, with a particular focus on environmental carcinogens and epigenetic markers in tumors and cancer disparities.

The lab will largely use archival human tumor tissue samples, blood samples, clinical data and some lifestyle risk factor data, as well as publicly available datasets. We will also measure biomarkers of exposure to environmental contaminants and incorporate geospatial techniques to correlate with environmental contaminants at location of residence.

Candidates should be highly motivated, a keen attention to detail and following protocols, have a PhD or equivalent, and possess a strong background in population science/ epidemiology and data analysis. Specific experience and skills in the analysis of genomic data, including SNP data and methylation array data, is preferred. Prior experience with basic laboratory techniques is desirable. The candidate should be capable of designing and analyzing experiments consistent with the broad thematic goals of the research program. The candidate should have quality publications in nationally recognized journals, be fluent in English, and interested and motivated to contribute to grant-writing and supervision of research associates and students as the laboratory expands.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
