JOB SUMMARY
The Population Science Department uses the collective expertise of epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and behavioral scientists to better understand the behavioral, social, environmental, and biological factors that affect cancer prevention, risk, survivorship, and survival. This research aims to refine personalized risk prediction and targeted intervention strategies, inform public health and clinical decision-making for cancer prevention and survivorship, and reduce disparities among medically vulnerable populations. Most of the work within Population Science uses the Cancer Prevention Studies (CPS), a series of large-scale prospective cohort studies built and maintained by the American Cancer Society since the 1950s. The CPS cohorts include extensive survey-based data and other data sources such as accelerometry, blood, stool, saliva, and tumor tissue. The American Cancer Society has recently approved the launch of a new cohort to better characterize cancer risk and drivers of disparate cancer outcomes in Black women. We seek a doctorally-trained scientist in epidemiology to help facilitate the development of this new cohort.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
We are particularly interested in, but not limited to, scientists with expertise in the following areas:
– Epidemiologic study design
– Cancer health disparities
– Breast, endometrial, and colorectal cancers
– Social epidemiology
– Cancer outcomes

The scientist hired for this position will initiate and support research activities related to new cohort development in collaboration with study staff and leadership. The incumbent will also serve as a public spokesperson for Population Science and the new cohort by communicating scientific progress and outcomes of recruitment efforts to stakeholders-including American Cancer Society staff and volunteers, the scientific community, mainstream media, and the public at large. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development large-scale cohort of under-represented minorities that will inform future cancer prevention and survivorship strategies. Specific responsibilities include:
– Collaborate with study management and intramural research scientists to develop protocols, consent procedures, and data use agreements.
– Engage with the American Cancer Society’s marketing and community outreach teams to build and implement recruitment strategies.
– Collaborate with study management and intramural research scientists to identify and develop data collection procedures, including questionnaire development and logistical protocols for biological and physical assessments.
– Provide programming support of external linkages (e.g., medical records, census data, cancer registries, and connection to personal devices)
– Interface with Study Management to (1) assist with participant consent process; (2) monitor data collection efforts; (3) receive and manage data deliveries; (4) oversee the manipulation, organization, and cleaning of data; and (5) track participants, as necessary.
– Facilitate regular project updates to study team and leadership.
– Assist in the documentation and reporting of scientific activities to American Cancer Society staff and stakeholders, the scientific community, and general public.
– The scientist hired will also maintain an independent scientific portfolio using data and other resources from the ongoing Cancer Prevention Studies.

Position Requirements
FORMAL KNOWLEDGE
Applicants must have a doctoral degree and post-doctoral training (or relevant experience) in epidemiology. They should have a consistent track record of publication and experience in cancer epidemiology or health equity research. The successful candidate will have experience or a strong interest in study design, including protocol development, survey design, and biospecimen collection. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the scientific leadership of the new cohort and ultimately establish an innovative, independent research portfolio that aligns with the Society’s mission and Population Science research priorities.

Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, Integrative Medicine Program, on the Clinical Scholar pathway with an approximate 50:50 contribution to clinical service and academic pursuits.

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time MD/DO faculty member at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), in the Clinical Research Division of the Fred Hutch and the Division of Medical Oncology, Department of Medicine at the UW. The primary appointment will be in the Clinical Research Division of Fred Hutch. Academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. University of Washington Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and Associate and Full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that both align with a 12-month service period. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The selected individual for the advertised position is expected to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in clinical research in integrative medicine and supportive care. All clinical and translational research experiences and interests will be considered, and expertise and focus in developing symptom management programs to help patients adhere to standard treatment pathways and/or to improve cancer survivorship is highly desirable. The Fred Hutch Integrative Medicine Program collaborates closely with other Supportive Care services, including Nutrition, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Medicine, Pain, Palliative Care, Psychosocial Oncology, Social Work, and Spiritual Health. Fred Hutch and University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will involve oversight of advanced practice providers, nurses, and fellows in the clinical setting, and delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to providers and the general medical community.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have specific clinical and research interest and experience in the field of Integrative Oncology, such as lifestyle recommendations (nutrition, physical activity), the appropriate use of dietary supplements and natural products, mind-body medicine, and/or acupuncture following a cancer diagnosis.

The ideal candidate should have a record of and primary interest in Integrative Oncology as well as an active clinical research interest, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and grant funding in the application of complementary or integrative therapies in the oncology setting.

Applicants must have an MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification in internal medicine, oncology, and/or related medical specialty. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, a preeminent comprehensive cancer center in New York, New York, is recruiting for postdoctoral trainees to join its Psycho-Oncology Research Training Program. We are seeking outstanding postdoctoral research fellowship candidates for mentored research training in the psychological and behavioral aspects of cancer. Supported by a NIH T32 Institutional Research Training grant from the National Cancer Institute, fellows gain expertise in all aspects of research, including health communication, grant writing and management, career development, supervision of research assistants, data management, liaison with multidisciplinary co-investigators, data analyses, and dissemination of findings via oral presentations and manuscript preparation. The postdoctoral fellowship provides a one-year renewable (maximum three), research practicum. In addition, support for housing, childcare, travel, and training-related expenses (i.e., health care benefits) are provided.

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences was established in 1977 and currently has 52 full-time faculty members. Faculty members available to serve as postdoctoral fellow mentors have expertise in topics including genomic medicine and health decision making, bereavement and palliative care, cancer prevention, immigrant health and cancer disparities, tobacco control and treatment, caregiving, patient-provider communication, neurocognitive effects of cancer therapy, and addressing needs of aging adults. Fellows are matched with one to three mentors with established research programs based on expertise and interests. The Associate Director for Cancer Control and Population Sciences is a senior Executive Leader within HMNCC and will report directly to the Director of the Cancer Center. The postdoctoral fellow will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Anne Marie McCarthy, a cancer epidemiologist at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Informatics. Projects will cover topic areas including breast cancer risk prediction, integration of genetics into breast cancer prevention, evaluation of novel imaging biomarkers of breast cancer risk, personalized screening, and racial disparities in breast cancer. Professor and Chief of the PHS Division of Health Services and Behavioral Research (tenure-eligible)

The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) in the Penn State College of Medicine is seeking applicants to fill a tenure-eligible position at the rank of Professor. The successful candidate will also be appointed Chief of the Division of Health Services and Behavioral Research.

The PHS mission is to advance health through the design, conduct and analysis of population-based biomedical research (including clinical trials, observational research, health services research, and regulatory and translational science), the support of basic science and clinical research, the education of future generations of health professionals, and the active engagement of the community to improve health and well-being.

PHS consists of four academic divisions, namely, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Health Services and Behavioral Research, and Clinical Informatics Research. There are more than 60 PHS faculty members (35 tenured/tenure-eligible) and more than 70 support staff members. PHS provides a strong infrastructure for its faculty members and the broader College and Penn State Health in the areas of biostatistics, study design, data management, research computing, project management, and finance and administration. PHS offers six graduate programs, namely, PhD in Epidemiology, PhD in Biostatistics, Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Research, and Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security with an option in Public Health Preparedness, as well as several Graduate Certificate programs.

The Chief of the Division of Health Services and Behavioral Research will be responsible for the academic development of the Division and its faculty members with respect to research and education. The Health Services and Behavioral Research Division consists of 28 faculty members. Research expertise includes research on the organization, financing, delivery, and quality of health care services. Current faculty members have particular expertise in the design of health surveys and the analysis of large datasets. Division faculty members are also integrally involved in the management of several of our graduate programs.

Candidate requirements:

• PhD with training and experience in health services or behavioral research that is applicable to biomedical research
• Strong record of scholarly activity consistent with a faculty rank of Professor, including extramural grant funding as Principal Investigator
• Experience mentoring junior faculty members
• Experience teaching and advising students at the graduate and professional level
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong commitment to diversity

The Penn State College of Medicine is located in Hershey, PA, near the state capital of Harrisburg. Large metropolitan areas are within a few hours of driving, such as Philadelphia (1.5 hours), Baltimore (1.5 hours), New York City (2.5 hours), Washington DC (2.5 hours), and Pittsburgh (3.5 hours). Harrisburg International Airport and AMTRAK are located less than ten miles away.
