The Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (GLCCC) is seeking outstanding candidates for an NCI T32-funded, postdoctoral training program in Cancer Population Science (CPaS).

The program focuses on preparing trainees for independent research careers with a focus on clinical and community translational research. Training faculty have a wide breadth of domain-specific expertise with funded research programs in behavioral science, health disparities, epidemiology/biomarkers, cancer and aging, health services/health policy, and survivorship. The program offers 2-3 years of funding, competitive salary and benefits, as well as funds for travel and research support. The fellows will be mentored to develop their own program of funded research and have access to a robust training environment.

GLCCC is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the nation’s capital. Fellows participate in all phases of research, from study design through manuscript preparation, and participate in a formal didactic program. There also are opportunities to participate in multidisciplinary grant writing and the development of new projects and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) in the UVA School of Medicine and the NCI designated University of Virginia Cancer Center (UVACC) are jointly seeking applicants for multiple open rank tenured and tenure-eligible faculty positions to conduct research on racial and ethnic cancer disparities that influence inequities in cancer incidence, health-related quality of life, and/or survival. The successful candidates will be appointed within PHS to conduct scientific research and lead a research program focused on racial and ethnic disparities in the communities served by the UVA Cancer Center. Candidates must have a proven track record of successful federally funded research in health inequities in the field of cancer prevention and control with an emphasis on racial and ethnic disadvantage, and a scholarly record of collaboration in multidisciplinary investigator teams informed by community outreach and engagement principles and practice.

The UVA Cancer Center is based in Charlottesville Virginia, and serves a large racially and ethnically diverse catchment area ranging from northern VA to Southern and Southwest VA, and includes areas in West Virginia. PHS provides comprehensive and multi-disciplinary scientific and analytical services to the University of Virginia School of Medicine through its Divisions of Biomedical Informatics; Biostatistics; Translational Research and Applied Statistics; and Patient Outcomes, Policy and Epidemiologic Research. PHRI is working on initiatives that understand and promote population health in collaboration with payers, policymakers, health care institutions, The MetroHealth System operations, and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU).

PHRI’s vision is to lead the way to a healthy, thriving, equitable community and nation through actionable research, education and collaboration. PHRI consists of three Centers: The Center for Clinical Informatics, Research, and Education (CCIRE); the Center for Reducing Health Disparities (CRHD); and The Center for Health Care Research and Policy (CHRP). These 3 centers are supported by a Division of Biostatistics and Data Sciences, and are renowned for community engaged participatory research, statewide and regional policy relevant implementation science, clinical informatics research, and social context of care. We work closely with our Population Health Innovations Institute within The MetroHealth System where innovative approaches to improving population health can be deployed and evaluated.

We also work closely with the MetroHealth Cancer Center (MHCC) and the NCI-designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. The MetroHealth Cancer Center cares for over 1400 cancer cases annually, with at least 50% of patients coming from underserved populations. MHCC is committed to growing the cancer health services research program to reduce the cancer burden in the communities we serve. The NCI-designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (https://case.edu/cancer/) is based at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and affiliated with University Hospitals of Cleveland and the Cleveland Clinic. The research community is also supported by a multi-institution Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative (https://case.edu/medicine/ctsc/). Cleveland is a dynamic and multicultural city with significant opportunities to expand research to address cancer.

Required Qualifications


Applicants should have a Ph.D., DrPH, M.D., D.O. degree or equivalent and a strong record of scholarly activity. A rank of Assistant professor or higher is preferred. Academic rank will be determined based on record of experience.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities


The successful candidate will have a track record of successful independently funded research, and will be expected to establish a strong program of high quality extramurally- funded population health research in cancer prevention and/or management. PHRI faculty members actively contribute to an environment that values diversity and nurtures collaboration, creativity, and innovation. Ample opportunities exist to benefit from new interdisciplinary collaborations across the MetroHealth System (MHS), CWRU and other health systems in the region. The new faculty will also have the opportunity to advance and extend existing relationships to multiple departments in the hospital and the University. HJF is seeking an Epidemiologist IV to support the Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR) located at the Rockledge Office in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CPDR. US citizenship is required.

CPDR is a comprehensive research program to study prostate cancer and prostate disease, CPDR was established in 1992 (Public Law 102-172). The program’s mission is fulfilled primarily through its three principal programs: (1) the Clinical Translational Research Center; (2) the Basic Science Research Program, and (3) the Tri-Service Multicenter Prostate Cancer Database to encompass its clinical research work with participating military medical centers.

Provides epidemiological, computer programming, biostatistical and laboratory procedure support for a specified project in the field of prostate cancer.

Responsibilities:

Evaluates epidemiological studies supporting the research project. (50%)
Provides consultation regarding study design and necessary statistical analysis. This includes advising on designing studies, analyzing statistics and epidemiological interpretations of the research. (30%)
Initiates, designs, and implements epidemiological studies supporting the research project. (10%)
Portfolio management including proposal review and project evaluation. (10%)
May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience in prostate disease/cancer research strongly preferred. Must have experience with oncology research. Knowledge and ability to use and teach complex epidemiologic research methods for assessing the risk of disease in humans due to potential risk factors; advanced knowledge in computer programming with experience with advanced multivariate statistical methods; knowledge of statistical and mathematical software including SAS, MINITAB, and BMDP; excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be familiar with grant writing and have a sufficient amount of publications (author and/or co-author).

Minimum Education: Doctoral degree is required.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 6-8 years of relevant work experience required.

Work Environment: Set in an office research environment.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid during COVID.

Background/Security: U.S. citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).

The Cancer Prevention & Control Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center (FCCC) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor with an active research program in intervention development, community-based participatory research, and/or dissemination and implementation science. Applicants should have a strong reputation in scholarship, as evidenced by a track record of independent cancer research funding and peer-reviewed publications. Academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will collaborate with a robust cancer research program at FCCC. The Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC) Program includes 33 program members who have expertise across psychology, epidemiology, public health, oncology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and health services research. The CPC Program fosters a productive research environment that supports multidisciplinary collaboration, and program members have access to exceptional, state-of-the-art core facilities, postdoctoral training grants, an outstanding cancer risk assessment program, and a formal network of hospital affiliations across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. FCCC is also a key participant in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.

Fox Chase Cancer Center is one of the leading cancer research and treatment centers in the United States. Founded in 1904 as one of the nation’s first cancer hospitals, Fox Chase was also among the first institutions to be designated a National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center in 1974. Fox Chase researchers have won the highest awards in their fields, including two Nobel Prizes. Today, Fox Chase is internationally known for the outstanding research being conducted across basic, translational, and population science programs.

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree in psychology, public health, or a health-related field and have a strong publication record and currently active external grant funding.
