Tenured/Tenure-track Faculty Position in the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention, Wake Forest University School of Medicine

The Department of Epidemiology and Prevention in the Wake Forest University School of Medicine is experiencing a period of tremendous growth and opportunity, with several ongoing faculty searches underway. With this posting, we are actively recruiting faculty at the Associate or Full Professor rank whose research focuses on cancer epidemiology. Cancer epidemiologists with methodologic expertise in real world data sources (e.g. electronic health record data, claims data, another registry-based data sources) are especially of interest, as are those with research interests in cancer screening, cancer symptoms, comorbidities, cancer care delivery, and survivorship. Leadership opportunities within the Atrium Health Wake Forest Comprehensive Cancer Center may be available, dependent on candidate interests and experience. This position recruitment may reside in either Winston-Salem or Charlotte, North Carolina. The new strategic partnership between Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Atrium Health, and Advocate (below) has created an unparalleled opportunity for epidemiologic research in cancer screening, care delivery, and consequences of cancer-related treatments.

Department of Epidemiology and Prevention
Wake Forest’s Department of Epidemiology and Prevention is one of four departments comprising the Division of Public Health Sciences (others are Biostatistics and Data Science, Implementation Science, and Social Sciences and Health Policy). Established in 1989, Public Health Sciences consistently ranks in the top 10 for National Institutes of Health funding among national academic medical center peer groups. In the past decade alone, the Division generated nearly $500 million of Wake Forest University School of Medicine’s research funding.

Faculty within the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention often share joint appointments within clinical departments, enhancing opportunity for clinical epidemiologic studies that directly inform patient care. Newly hired faculty can affiliate with one or more of our nationally-recognized centers including, among others: Center for Healthcare Innovation, Center for Biomedical Informatics, The Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity, Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center, Center for Addiction Research, Center for Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Center for Vaccines at the Extremes of Aging, the Sticht Center for Healthy Aging and Alzheimer’s Prevention, and the Program for Health Services Research. Atrium Health Comprehensive Cancer Center
The Atrium Health Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) includes the National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center, located in Winston-Salem, and the Levine Cancer Institute, located in Charlotte. The CCC is driven by the mission to reduce cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality in the rural southeast Appalachia region of the United States, as well as nationally and internationally, through cutting-edge research and treatment, community education and outreach, and transdisciplinary training of next- generation biomedical scientists and healthcare providers. The CCC has a team of over 400 researchers and physicians focused on translating discoveries from basic and population sciences research into clinical use for preventing, detecting, treating, and surviving cancer. Committed to supporting career development of next-generation cancer researchers, the CCC currently holds two NCI-funded T32s, one R25, and 12 other NIH-funded and three non-peer-reviewed training grants. The Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC) Program is a thriving research program with more than 47 scientific members across 16 departments and approximately $14 million in peer-reviewed cancer research. Unique resources include two P50 centers led by CPC investigators focused on implementation science in cancer control and translational alcohol research, as well as the Wake Forest NCORP Research Base (https://school.wakehealth.edu/research/institutes-and-centers/comprehensive-cancer-center/wake-forest-ncorp-research-base), one of seven research bases funded by the NCI to develop and implement cancer prevention and control research for the NCORP community oncology research network.

Wake Forest University School of Medicine

Qualifications
o Associate or Full Professor Rank
o Desire and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines
o Active research portfolio demonstrating methodologic research interests and experience in conducting and leading cancer-related research
o An established record of obtaining extramural funding
o Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
o Commitment to teaching and mentoring graduate, post-graduate, junior faculty, and/or clinicians
o Advanced degree (e.g., PhD, MD, PharmD), with PhD in epidemiology strongly preferred
