Washington University School of Medicine’s Division of Public Health Sciences broadens the scope of population-based research by providing a platform for our investigators to collaborate on projects affecting clinical care and outcomes. Our multidisciplinary faculty conduct world- leading research on a wide range of health issues including disease and cancer prevention, population health, and improving the quality and access to health care in Missouri and beyond. Current faculty includes epidemiologists, statisticians, behavioral scientists, economists, health communication scientists, and more, who address a range of population health challenges. Faculty from other departments and schools have secondary appointments in our division.

The T32 Transdisciplinary Cancer Prevention and Control Training Program is a unique asset to the school and region, as it prepares both PhD and MD researchers to be independent investigators in transdisciplinary research for cancer prevention and control. We welcome applicants on a rolling basis in any relevant research area and discipline. High priority areas include cancer disparities and health equity, community- based and community-engaged research, epidemiology, shared decision making, implementation science, and social determinants of health.

Postdoc positions are partially funded by a T32 grant (T32CA190194) from the NCI, with annual stipend starting at $56,880 depending on experience, for 2-3 years of training.

The UNMC Epidemiology Department seeks outstanding candidates for a post-doctoral fellowship position in cancer epidemiology. The Department works closely with Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with faculty on several extramurally funded projects on cancer epidemiology, prevention, and control. We seek applications from exceptional individuals with training and strong analytic skills in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, and other related areas with proficiency in SAS, R, Stata, or other statistical programming language/software. Specific projects include a rural cancer survivors’ cohort, a pediatric cancer survivors cohort, and working with population-based surveillance data such as SEER. Positions are for one year with the possibility of renewal for multiple years.



Additional Information:

The position is designed to prepare individuals for independent academic research careers in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and survivorship. The Individual selected for this position will have opportunities to lead and/or co-author manuscript publications and share project investigator role(s) commensurate with their experience and effort. The trainee will work with established investigators and be expected to develop research proposals, produce two to three publications annually, and work with a multidisciplinary team.

The Department of Epidemiology and Prevention in the Wake Forest University School of Medicine is experiencing a period of tremendous growth and opportunity, with several ongoing faculty searches underway. With this posting, we are actively recruiting faculty at the Associate or Full Professor rank whose research focuses on cancer epidemiology. Cancer epidemiologists with methodologic expertise in real world data sources (e.g. electronic health record data, claims data, another registry-based data sources) are especially of interest, as are those with research interests in cancer screening, cancer symptoms, comorbidities, cancer care delivery, and survivorship. Department of Epidemiology and Prevention
Wake Forest’s Department of Epidemiology and Prevention is one of four departments comprising the Division of Public Health Sciences (others are Biostatistics and Data Science, Implementation Science, and Social Sciences and Health Policy). Atrium Health Comprehensive Cancer Center
The Atrium Health Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) includes the National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center, located in Winston-Salem, and the Levine Cancer Institute, located in Charlotte. The CCC is driven by the mission to reduce cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality in the rural southeast Appalachia region of the United States, as well as nationally and internationally, through cutting-edge research and treatment, community education and outreach, and transdisciplinary training of next- generation biomedical scientists and healthcare providers. The CCC has a team of over 400 researchers and physicians focused on translating discoveries from basic and population sciences research into clinical use for preventing, detecting, treating, and surviving cancer. Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Department of Nutrition, chaired by Raz Shaikh, is one of eight departments in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. It is the only nutrition department in the United States situated in both a school of public health and a school of medicine. The Department engages in innovative work that capitalizes on both these schools’ approaches to health; thus, the Department has an unusual breadth of scientific and policy approaches. The Department of Nutrition’s mission is to improve and protect the public’s health through teaching, research, and practice that foster optimal nutrition. Its vision is to achieve optimal nutrition for all people around the globe. The Department of Nutrition consists of 41 primary, 11 joint, and 13 adjunct faculty and 8 administrative staff, as well as postdoctoral fellows and research staff members. During FY 2023, the Department managed over $23 million dollars in sponsored research funding.

In the Fall of 2023, the Department enrolled 370 students, including 45 doctoral , 215 master’s, and 110 bachelor students. The Gillings School of Global Public Health and the School of Medicine, located across the street from each other, are situated on the UNC main campus, facilitating cross-school and department collaboration.

Several Nutrition faculty are based at the UNC Nutrition Research Institute (NRI).

The NRI building is located on the 350-acre North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC) in Kannapolis, just 30 minutes north of Charlotte. Eight universities have a research presence at the NCRC, all with a focus on nutrition-related research. The NRI building is equipped with advanced wet laboratories to meet the needs of bench scientists in their basic and applied research, clinical facilities for assessing, measuring, processing, and examining clinical study participants, and a variety of meeting areas and office spaces. Nutrition faculty are also affiliated with several other centers and institutes across UNC that foster multidisciplinary collaboration, including the Carolina Population Center, the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, and the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center

Position Summary

The Department of Nutrition in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track position, commensurate with experience. The Department is recognized as a global leader in nutrition research and training. The breadth of our department’s research spans from cell to society and moves from discovery to intervention delivery and dissemination.

We are seeking applicants who will build an independent research program and participate in collaborative research that aligns with existing strengths in the department. We are especially interested in someone with expertise in nutritional epidemiology, particularly as it relates to areas of growing need, such as global nutrition; food and nutrition equity; food systems and policy; climate and the environment; novel approaches to the assessment of diet, nutritional status, and physical activity; biologic, behavioral, and/or social applications to precision nutrition; and data science. These are areas of research that are critical for the advancement of nutritional science and public health. Other responsibilities include teaching, research mentoring to undergraduate and graduate students, and participation in university and professional service.

Ideal candidates will have postdoctoral or faculty-level experience and a track record that supports the potential to establish a visible, impactful, and extramurally- funded research program.

A PhD or equivalent in nutrition, epidemiology, or relevant discipline is required.

The Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute (HFGCCRI) at ChristianaCare, located in Newark, Delaware, provides a unique environment to conduct population health science research to address cancer disparities. With more than 245,000 annual patient visits, the HFGCCRI is recognized as a national model for multidisciplinary cancer care and a top enroller in U.S. clinical research trials.

The HFGCCRI is one of a select group of research centers in the country to participate in the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). Summary:
Applied Research Scientist I/II Cancer Epidemiology

The Applied Research Scientist position will support the research and research team activities of Dr. Peter Kanetsky, an epidemiologist with ongoing investigations to understand the roles of genetic susceptibility and environmental factors in the development of melanoma and testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT) and the modulation of disease progression and outcomes. Dr. Kanetsky also leads intervention studies assessing whether receipt of information on inherited genetic risk can impact the practice of skin cancer prevention activities. This position is comparable to a staff scientist role: an essential contributor to analysis, writing, and grant preparation for ongoing and future research projects under the general direction of Dr. Kanetsky. Ph.D. in epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, or a closely aligned quantitative field
Has research experience in the academic and/or clinical setting, preferably in oncology
Statistical programming experience, including demonstrated proficiency in SAS and R
Demonstrating writing skills and enthusiasm for writing
Experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary environment
A critical, independent, and creative thinker

Responsibilities:
Under appropriate direction and guidance, performs research and related support activities including, (a) development, implementation, and management of research projects; (b) preparation of drafts of regulatory protocols and reports, manuscripts, and grants and (c) presentation of research at scientific meetings.
Interacts closely with Investigators and their collaborators in the consortium setting.
Maintains membership and regularly attends appropriate professional associations, conferences, workshops, lectures, and seminars as supported by the overseeing Investigators.

Credentials and Qualifications:
Minimum of an M.D. or Ph.D. in a discipline relevant to Population Science (e.g., epidemiology, biostatistics, psychology, internal medicine) or a related field.
Two years as an Applied Research Scientist or equivalent are required.

Equivalent Experience.
Credit for actual years worked in a relevant field of public health that was conducted independently of graduate training education.

The Cancer Epidemiology Program in the Division of Public Health Sciences (PHS) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level depending on qualifications. We are looking for individuals with innovative ideas and strong methodologic skills in epidemiological research to add to the breadth of expertise of our faculty. Areas of strategic growth include but are not limited to the following: social determinants of health, geospatial and environmental science, physical activity, immunoepidemiology, molecular and genetic epidemiology, exposome assessment, integrative tumor epidemiology, and the use of electronic health records and mobile technologies. Our outstanding research environment and resources provide a strong foundation for the successful candidate to develop and conduct an independent research program.

The Cancer Epidemiology Program’s research is focused on reducing cancer incidence, progression, mortality, and sequalae through the identification of risk (or protective) factors, the elucidation of underlying biologic mechanisms, and the translation of discoveries into intervention strategies. Through population, laboratory, and clinic-based studies, the faculty aim to uncover knowledge that can inform and improve knowledge of cancer etiology, cancer risk prediction, prevention, early detection, prognostication, treatment choice, survival and overall health. The Program is home to a long-standing, top-ranked Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program-funded cancer registry for Western Washington.

The Cancer Epidemiology Program is part of the Fred Hutch’s Division of Public Health Sciences, home of an extensive portfolio of population science research, large specimen and data repositories, multiple coordinating centers overseeing national and international cross-disciplinary research initiatives, a prevention center designed for intervention research, and a large trans-disciplinary faculty. The Fred Hutch, together with the University of Washington, and Seattle Children’s is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with active training programs for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. An appointment with the University of Washington is possible, depending on qualifications and interests.

The candidate will use an intersectional and interdisciplinary approach to study the individual, social, and structural factors that shape health disparities with a focus on rural populations. We are particularly interested in individuals whose research fits within the department’s interdisciplinary focus on integrating biological, environmental, psychosocial, and contextual processes.

Although the tenure home of the position is in BBH, this faculty position will be co-funded by Penn State’s https://ssri.psu.edu/. Social Sciences Research Institute (SSRI), whose mission is to foster research that addresses critical human and social problems at the local, national, and international levels. SSRI has five strategic foci: 1) the causes and consequences of inequality, 2) human development and behavior, 3) the social and environmental determinants of health, 4) innovative and data intensive research methods, and 5) individual and community impact. SSRI supports interdisciplinary research by bringing together researchers across the university around emerging areas, and by providing consultation, seed grants and faculty fellowships, and core resources tailored to the needs of social and behavioral scientists. Colleagues with strong interdisciplinary and/or translational orientations are particularly desired. The successful candidate should be a collaborative researcher who will promote and enhance excellence and innovation in interdisciplinary research between BBH and SSRI.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this position include establishing a fundable line of interdisciplinary biobehavioral health research, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, supervising and mentoring student researchers, and providing service to the Department, College, and University and to the profession. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in research, a strong publication record appropriate for their stage of career, interest in collaboration across disciplines, commitment to mentoring students or early career researchers, and a track record of or strong potential for external grant funding, with excellent potential to carry forward such research and funding. The individual would be expected to establish a line of interdisciplinary health research with a focus on rural health disparities and which has clear funding targets.

Qualifications

For Assistant Professor, candidates must possess a Ph.D. or terminal degree at the time of hire, or a degree that is equivalent to a Ph.D. or terminal degree in the U.S. at the time of hire. Areas of study may include social and behavioral science, epidemiology, psychology, biology, neuroscience, sociology, public health, population health, biobehavioral health, or a closely related field. Assistant Professor candidates must show promise for excellence in research, teaching, and service at the time of hire. For Early Associate Professor, candidates must possess the same qualifications as Assistant Professor candidates but also demonstrate established excellence in research, teaching, and service commensurate with the position.
