Population Health Research Institute
The MetroHealth System /Case Western Reserve University
We invite outstanding individuals (PhDs, DrPH, MDs, or DOs) focused on cancer population health research to apply for a new faculty position in the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI). PHRI is working on initiatives that understand and promote population health in collaboration with payers, policymakers, health care institutions, The MetroHealth System operations, and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU).
PHRI’s vision is to lead the way to a healthy, thriving, equitable community and nation through actionable research, education and collaboration. PHRI consists of three Centers: The Center for Clinical Informatics, Research, and Education (CCIRE); the Center for Reducing Health Disparities (CRHD); and The Center for Health Care Research and Policy (CHRP). These 3 centers are supported by a Division of Biostatistics and Data Sciences, and are renowned for community engaged participatory research, statewide and regional policy relevant implementation science, clinical informatics research, and social context of care. We work closely with our Population Health Innovations Institute within The MetroHealth System where innovative approaches to improving population health can be deployed and evaluated.
We also work closely with the MetroHealth Cancer Center (MHCC) and the NCI-designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. The MetroHealth Cancer Center cares for over 1400 cancer cases annually, with at least 50% of patients coming from underserved populations. MHCC is committed to growing the cancer health services research program to reduce the cancer burden in the communities we serve. The NCI-designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (https://case.edu/cancer/) is based at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and affiliated with University Hospitals of Cleveland and the Cleveland Clinic. The research community is also supported by a multi-institution Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative (https://case.edu/medicine/ctsc/). Cleveland is a dynamic and multicultural city with significant opportunities to expand research to address cancer.
Applicants should have a Ph.D., DrPH, M.D., D.O. degree or equivalent and a strong record of scholarly activity. A rank of Assistant professor or higher is preferred. Academic rank will be determined based on record of experience.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have a track record of successful independently funded research, and will be expected to establish a strong program of high quality extramurally- funded population health research in cancer prevention and/or management. PHRI faculty members actively contribute to an environment that values diversity and nurtures collaboration, creativity, and innovation. Ample opportunities exist to benefit from new interdisciplinary collaborations across the MetroHealth System (MHS), CWRU and other health systems in the region. The new faculty will also have the opportunity to advance and extend existing relationships to multiple departments in the hospital and the University. Clinical responsibilities will be based on candidate interests and MHS clinical needs if the candidate has a clinical degree. Teaching opportunities can be discussed based on candidate interests.
