Job Information/Description:

The Cancer Epidemiology Program in the Division of Public Health Sciences (PHS) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level depending on qualifications. We are looking for individuals with innovative ideas and strong methodologic skills in epidemiological research to add to the breadth of expertise of our faculty. Areas of strategic growth include but are not limited to the following: social determinants of health, geospatial and environmental science, physical activity, immunoepidemiology, molecular and genetic epidemiology, exposome assessment, integrative tumor epidemiology, and the use of electronic health records and mobile technologies. Our outstanding research environment and resources provide a strong foundation for the successful candidate to develop and conduct an independent research program.

The Cancer Epidemiology Program’s research is focused on reducing cancer incidence, progression, mortality, and sequalae through the identification of risk (or protective) factors, the elucidation of underlying biologic mechanisms, and the translation of discoveries into intervention strategies. Through population, laboratory, and clinic-based studies, the faculty aim to uncover knowledge that can inform and improve knowledge of cancer etiology, cancer risk prediction, prevention, early detection, prognostication, treatment choice, survival and overall health. The Program is home to a long-standing, top-ranked Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program-funded cancer registry for Western Washington.

The Cancer Epidemiology Program is part of the Fred Hutch’s Division of Public Health Sciences, home of an extensive portfolio of population science research, large specimen and data repositories, multiple coordinating centers overseeing national and international cross-disciplinary research initiatives, a prevention center designed for intervention research, and a large trans-disciplinary faculty. The Fred Hutch, together with the University of Washington, and Seattle Children’s is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with active training programs for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. An appointment with the University of Washington is possible, depending on qualifications and interests.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a dynamic independent research program and to join in collaborative transdisciplinary and translational endeavors pertinent to our mission of reducing cancer incidence, progression, mortality, and sequelae. Applicants should have a doctoral (PhD or MD with MPH/MS) degree or equivalent training in cancer epidemiology (or a related discipline) and relevant research experience.

For faculty without clinical responsibilities, the annual base salary range for this position is from $165,000 to $197,026 for faculty hired at the Assistant Professor rank and from $185,059 to $229,952 for faculty hired at the Associate Professor rank. For faculty with clinical responsibilities, the annual base salary range for this position is from $200,181 to $393,196 for faculty hired at the Assistant Professor rank and from $240,162 to $420,547 for faculty hired at the Associate Professor rank. Pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Pay for Faculty positions is based on a variety of factors, including degree, specialty, clinical practice and experience. This position is eligible for relocation assistance and sign-on bonus.
