Abstract Body:
Purpose The purpose of this study was to describe the latest available incidence and survival rates of breast cancer among Moroccan women, based on results of Casablanca Cancer Registry. Methods For this descriptive study, incidence and survival data were derived from the most recent report of the population-based cancer registry of Casablanca (2008 - 2012). This registry covers about 12 % of the Moroccan population. Results Breast cancer was the first leading cancer incidence in women, accounting for 35.8% of all new cancer cases in females. The age-standardized rates by Moroccan and world population were 45.5/100 000 women and 49.5/100 000 women, respectively. The highest incidence rates were identified in the age groups of 50-54, 55-59 and 60-64 years (158.6, 197.3 and 154.4 per 100 000 respectively). The Breast cancer survival rates at 5 and 7 years were 79% and 65% respectively. Conclusions This study present the most updated data on breast cancer incidence and survival in Moroccan women. It provides useful data for policy makers to plan control strategies of breast cancer in Morocco.
