The American Society of Preventive Oncology (ASPO) is a multi-disciplinary society which, through a variety of professional education activities which take place surrounding its annual meeting, is primarily committed to serving as an advocate for cancer prevention and control research.

VISION:

ASPO is the organization for accelerating progress towards cancer prevention and control.

MISSION:

To foster the continuing development of investigators and other professionals involved in cancer prevention and control, and the exchange and translation of scientific information to reduce the cancer burden

ASPO Strategic Plan

In 2024, ASPO embarked on its 2024-2027 strategic plan. This forward-looking roadmap is designed to guide our growth, innovation and impact for the next several years. The plan reflects our dedication to our membership while addressing the evolving needs of those with whom we engage. Through a collaborative planning process, ASPO leadership identified 4 goals with actionable objectives and strategies that will enhance ASPO’s member benefits, increase ASPO’s reach to various constituents and bolster its long-term stability.

Goal: Enhance member benefits and expand and diversify the ASPO membership base to represent all areas of cancer prevention and control

Goal: Enhance our Annual Meeting to include more areas of cancer prevention and control

Goal: Expand learning opportunities throughout the year

Goal: Enhance operational excellence to support a robust and growing Society

ASPO Cancer Prevention & Control Continuum

In April 2025, ASPO affirmed that it’s definition of the continuum of cancer prevention and control is aligned with the NCI’s Cancer Control Continuum, with a few additional crosscutting areas, including biology, community engagement, data science and risk prediction modeling. ASPO endeavors to cover these topics in its educational programming.
