The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Cancer Center and Research Institute, in collaboration with the John D. Bower School of Population Health, is seeking an accomplished and enthusiastic leader to serve as the Associate Director of Population Health and Cancer Control.

About the Position
The Associate Director will provide strategic vision and leadership for the Cancer Center and Research Institute’s population health and cancer control initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on reducing the cancer burden in Mississippi, a state with some of the highest cancer rates in the nation.

The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment as Associate Director within the Cancer Center and Research Institute and a senior faculty position commensurate with their experience within the John D. Bower School of Population Health at UMMC. Cross/dual appointments in other UMMC Schools are available based on individual candidate qualifications.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for population health and cancer control research within the Cancer Center and Research Institute. Pursuit of National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation will be a key goal for that strategic planning effort.
Lead and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of investigators focused on cancer disparities, prevention, screening, early detection, survivorship, and access to quality care.
Secure extramural funding to support population health and cancer control research initiatives.
Mentor junior faculty and provide leadership in fostering a collaborative research environment.
Recruit additional faculty with a focus on building a collaborative team of cancer population health researchers
Provide strategic direction and oversight for the Cancer Center and Research Institute’s population health and cancer control activities that will support NCI designation.
Represent the Cancer Center and Research Institute in regional, national, and international collaborations focused on population health and cancer control.

Qualifications
Doctoral degree (PhD preferred) in Population Health, Public Health, Epidemiology, Cancer Biology, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated expertise in population health and cancer control research.
Strong record of securing extramural funding from federal agencies (NCI, CDC) or other prestigious organizations.
At least 3 years of administrative experience in leading multi-disciplinary research teams.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
A passion for reducing cancer disparities and improving health outcomes in underserved populations.
Eligibility for a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with within the John D. Bower School of Population Health at UMMC.
