New Jersey Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Research Center of Excellence (NJ PHORCE)
Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey invites candidates to apply for Assistant to Professor tenure-track faculty positions in pediatric population science, health outcomes, and disparities research. Academic rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful behavioral or physician-scientist will join the Pediatric Population Science, Outcomes, and Disparities Research Section in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Department of Pediatrics. The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an innovative, independent, collaborative, and extramurally-funded research program. Area of research interest is open, but we are particularly interested in applicants conducting research in pediatric hematology/oncology health disparities, health equity, cancer survivorship, psychosocial risk and resilience, or community-based research. The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Program provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art care for children and adolescents with cancer and blood disorders and is a member of the National Cancer Institute supported Children’s Oncology Group (COG), the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research and clinical trials. The LITE Program at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey provides long-term evaluation, support, and health education for the growing population of childhood cancer survivors.
The Center for Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorder Research at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey is dedicated to growing its research focused on health equity and outcomes among childhood cancer survivors. Rutgers Cancer Institute has a vibrant and active research program in cancer prevention and control, cancer epidemiology and cancer disparities, and a Center for Tobacco Studies at RBHS. There is a strong and growing research program in cancer survivorship in primary care settings at the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. With the integration of Rutgers Cancer Institute into the RWJBarnabas Health System, there are many opportunities for research collaboration and study implementation across New Jersey. Program members also have strong ties with the diverse communities in New Jersey. Rutgers Cancer Institute houses the SEER New Jersey State Cancer Registry, which facilitates research through high quality reporting of cancer cases across the state and rapid case ascertainment of new cancer cases. In addition, Rutgers Cancer Institute has numerous shared resources available to faculty to facilitate research, including: 1) Population Science (DatStat, data collection); 2) Biostatistics; 3) a bio-specimen repository; and 4) precision oncology and access to ORIEN (Oncology Research Information Exchange Network), a shared resource for precision oncology data for epidemiology studies. Rutgers Cancer Institute, located in New Brunswick, NJ, is the state’s only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center and is easily accessible to New York City, Newark Airport, and Philadelphia by public transportation.
Candidates must have PhD or MD/PhD in medicine, psychology, public health, epidemiology, or a health-related profession with a strong publication record. Preference will be given to applicants with an established and extramurally funded research program. Faculty are expected to support the educational goals and activities of the School, and as such will be expected to be involved in teaching activities for students as well as targeted lectures in their area of expertise.
