UMass Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) and UMass Memorial Health (UMMH), Worcester, seek a distinguished, dynamic, and collaborative Hematology/Oncology leader with a strong clinical and academic foundation to serve as the next Chief of the Division of Hematology Oncology. As the leader of the Division, the Chief will be responsible for the growth and advancement of research, faculty recruitment and development, scholarly activity, and teaching excellence for the Division. The Division strives to be a nationally recognized Hematology Oncology program through advancing clinical, educational, research, and scholarly activities with the goal of being a top-tier division in all areas.
UMass Memorial Health is the largest integrated healthcare system in Central and Western Massachusetts. Based in Worcester, the system encompasses a multi-campus tertiary and quaternary care medical center (UMass Memorial Medical Center); member and affiliated community hospitals; home health; hospice; health plan; extensive ambulatory care sites; rehabilitation; and behavioral health service. UMass Chan Medical School is one of five campuses in the University of Massachusetts system. One of the fastest-growing research institutions in the United States, UMass Chan is ranked near the top among public medical schools in the Northeast in funding awarded by the National Institutes of Health with $204 million in FY 2023 – total research awards were more than $322 million in FY 2023.
UMass Chan and UMMH’s Hematology/Oncology programs are among the busiest in New England with more than 6,000 new Hematology/Oncology patients per year at 5 sites across the region, approximately 60 patients per year receiving stem cell transplantation, and 15 patients per year receiving cellular therapy in the newly implemented and growing CAR-T program. Additionally, the UMass Cancer Center is a powerhouse in cancer research with scientists and clinical researchers recruited from around the world to develop innovative approaches through groundbreaking basic, translational, clinical, and population-based research. Furthermore, the UMass Cancer Center is dedicated to educating and training the next generation of cancer researchers, educators, clinicians, and physician-scientists – UMass Chan and UMMH offer extensive education and training programs in undergraduate medical education, graduate and postdoctoral education, and all levels of medical training.
Position Description
The new Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology will lead UMass Chan/UMMH in its efforts to shape the growth of Hematology Oncology services across the UMass Chan and UMMH System. The Chief will be integrally involved in developing and executing a strategic plan and vision for integrated cancer care while working closely with community Hematology/Oncology leaders to collaboratively advance the delivery of cancer care to the hospitals’ patient populations and the goal of achieving NCI Cancer Center status.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced physician-leader and/or physician-scientist to live and work in a very desirable, highly advanced healthcare market, and expand upon a Hematology/Oncology program with the clinical operational support and expertise of one of the nation’s leading Hematology/Oncology Medicine hospitals and health systems.

A multi-disciplinary search committee will review applicants for eligibility and then invite qualified applicants for virtual interviews. A subgroup of applicants will be invited for onsite interviews. Finally, applicants may be invited to submit their vision statement.
