Search for the Associate Director of Population Sciences

Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center

University of Nebraska Medical Center

Omaha, Nebraska

The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center (FPBCC) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) seeks an ambitious, dynamic leader to serve as its inaugural Associate Director of Population Sciences (ADPS). As the only NCI-designated cancer center in Nebraska, the FPBCC places scientists and clinicians in collaborative spaces, providing an unparalleled opportunity for researchers to impact the future of cancer prevention and treatment. Working in collaboration with stakeholders across the university with local and regional community leaders, the ADPS will further this effort by identifying and developing a translatable cancer prevention research strategy that improves the health of Nebraskans, built upon a thorough analysis of their health needs and challenges.

Reporting to the Director of the Cancer Center, the ADPS will develop a comprehensive vision for population-based research in cancer, expanding upon the FPBCC’s strengths and ability to best serve the diverse patient population in its catchment area. To achieve this, the ADPS will nurture relationships across the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, UNMC, and Nebraska Medicine, while strengthening those within the community to facilitate cross-disciplinary research in cancer population sciences research throughout the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, the University of Nebraska system, and the State of Nebraska. With the resources necessary to recruit several accomplished researchers at varying levels of expertise, the work within this high-priority focus on population health will further advance the Cancer Center’s overall mission of improving the health and well-being of Nebraska’s populations, especially the underserved.

The inaugural ADPS will bring a track record of federally funded population-based cancer research and a collaborative leadership style. As a coalition builder who can build a strong research program, the ADPS will have experience in energizing a coalition of investigators and in attracting, mentoring, and supporting a team of top talent researchers.

The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist in the recruitment of the Associate Director. Patricia Hastie, Managing Partner and Jasmine Miller, Senior Associate, are leading this search for UNMC.
