Population and Translational Science Researcher

The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) invites talented researchers to join our efforts in Population and Translational Sciences (PTS). Our PTS efforts strive to advance our understanding of cancer at the population level and develop strategies for translating scientific discoveries into practical applications for cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. This mission is accomplished by fostering broad interdisciplinary collaborations among various stakeholders, including basic research scientists, clinicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and public health experts. The collaborative approach allows for a comprehensive understanding of cancer from multiple perspectives and facilitates the development of innovative strategies for population-based translational cancer research. The visionary goals that PTS aims to achieve include: 1) advancing population-based cancer research in Arkansas; 2) promoting interdisciplinary research and partnerships; 3) bridging the gap between research and practice; 4) improving cancer outcomes and survivorship; 5) reducing cancer burden and health disparities; 6) influencing cancer control policies.

Applicants who qualify for Assistant or Associate Professor and possess a terminal degree (e.g. MD, PhD, ScD) are invited to apply for 12-month tenure-track or tenured positions. Candidates applying for an Assistant Professor position should have a record of peer-reviewed publications and either have extramural funding or show evidence of the ability to secure extramural funding if not currently funded. Candidates applying for an Associate Professor position should exhibit a strong record of peer-reviewed research publications and a robust history of extramural funding. Successful applicants will hold an academic appointment in the hiring department at one of UAMS’ professional colleges.

Faculty positions will be supported by generous funds from the state as part of a significant investment to secure National Cancer Institute designation. The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute is the premier cancer center in Arkansas, boasting the largest cancer research portfolio in the state. The institute treats over 2,500 patients annually and provides training for students and health professionals. Our faculty and staff are committed to advancing research that leads to novel prevention and treatment strategies, delivered in both community and clinic settings.
