RESEARCH ASSISTANT OR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR POSITIONS

POSITIONS: The Department of Health Behavior, in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for two fixed-term faculty position as a Research Assistant or Research Associate Professor. The focus of one position is alcohol research to reduce high risk drinking on college campuses, including intervention development, media campaigns, policy change, and coalition building. The focus of the second position is tobacco control policy research, including sales and marketing of tobacco products at retail outlets, health equity, menthol and flavored tobacco products, and pictorial warnings.

 

The positions start in spring or summer 2019 and funding would be provided for two years, with the expectation of external funding to support additional years. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidates would primarily focus on research and would not be expected to teach; the candidates may also partner with our faculty conducting ongoing studies on these topics.

QUALIFICATIONS: The applicant must have a doctorate (PhD, ScD, or DrPH) in public health, public policy, social and behavioral science, or related field. Applicants must have a strong publication record and evidence of potential for developing a research program supported by extramural funding.

 

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: Faculty of the Department address social and behavioral health determinants and outcomes across a wide variety of health problems, in diverse populations, and through diverse settings in the US and internationally. Conceptual emphases of faculty research include health communication, interpersonal and social processes, and community engagement. A range of quantitative and qualitative research methods are represented in the work of the Department’s faculty. Training programs lead to MPH, MSPH, and PhD degrees and prepare students for careers in public health research, teaching, administration, and practice. Across all these areas the Department is committed to research and practice that advances social justice and especially seeks candidates who will add to the diversity of its faculty.
