Program Director - NCI Behavioral Research Program

Posting Date: 08/10/2020

Job Information/Description:

The Behavioral Research Program (BRP), within the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences, welcomes letters of interest from researchers to serve as Program Director/Health Scientist Administrator in the Health Behaviors Research Branch (HBRB). We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment, and we strongly welcome candidates from underrepresented groups.

ABOUT HBRB

One of BRP’s four extramural branches, HBRB supports and catalyzes research on the discovery, testing, and implementation of effective strategies to promote healthy lifestyle behaviors for cancer prevention and control. HBRB supports research that focuses on multiple behavioral influences – individually and in combination – at the biological, psychological, behavioral, social, environmental, sociocultural, and policy levels. Research priorities include gene-behavior interactions, diet, physical activity and sedentary behavior, energy balance, obesity, sun safety and indoor tanning, alcohol use, sleep and circadian dysfunction, adherence to cancer-related medical and behavioral regimens, and other emerging cancer risk behaviors.

BRP maintains a robust set of research resources and contributes to national surveillance activities. Resources include public use databases (e.g., CLASS, which monitors, classifies, and evaluates health-related school policies) and datasets (e.g., Family Life, Activity, Sun, Health, and Eating study (FLASHE) and the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS)), among other tools to support research (e.g., GEM) and collaboration (Team Science Toolkit). The grant portfolio includes a wide range of innovative and diverse research from investigators at domestic and international research institutions (e.g., selected investigator profiles).
