Job Information/Description:

The Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with interest in social and cancer epidemiology, breast cancer prevention and control and/or cancer health disparities. The fellow will join a research team with active NIH funded projects investigating the role of mammographic breast density in breast cancer risk, screening, and clinical risk assessment, improving breast cancer screening practices in diverse populations, understanding the sources and strategies for addressing cancer health disparities with a focus on urban, racial minority and immigrant populations. The research conducted includes clinical, community-based and population-based studies, with extensive epidemiologic and clinical data. Biospecimen and qualitative data are also available for subsets of these studies.

The fellow is expected to increase his/her methodological and substantive knowledge of studies of breast cancer prevention and control, build skills for developing and implementing research studies, and have opportunities to lead and/or co-author manuscript publications. S/he will perform population health research activities, including developing and implementing research protocols, designing and conducting studies, performing data analyses, preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, delivering presentations at scientific meetings, assisting in the development of grant proposals, and providing other research and methodological support for existing and ongoing studies. Opportunities to develop and write funding proposals for pilot and ancillary studies within larger ongoing studies are also available.

The position offers up to two years of postdoctoral fellowship with compensation commensurate with experience, excellent benefits package and funds for travel to professional conferences and meetings. Individuals with the following characteristics will be competitive for the position: strong motivation and commitment to a career in cancer research, excellent communication and quantitative skills, ability to conduct self-directed and collaborative research.

Eligibility: PhD, DrPH or other doctoral degree in epidemiology or other public health discipline, behavioral science, population health, biostatistics, or a closely related field. Candidates with prior postdoctoral training are also eligible to apply.
