The Center for Social Epidemiology and Population Health is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow interested in research that investigates the role of tobacco control policies on health equity.
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellowship to join Dr. Nancy Fleischer and her team of collaborators on NIH funded interdisciplinary projects focused on the role of tobacco control policies on health equity. The interdisciplinary team includes epidemiologists, sociologists, health behavior experts, economists, and statisticians.
Compensation (salary and benefits) will be offered according to University of Michigan and NIH guidelines. The University of Michigan offers a vibrant community for the study of social determinants of health, as well as the study of tobacco use and tobacco control policy.
Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Epidemiology, Health Behavior, Health Policy, Statistics, Health Economics, or a related field. A track record of peer-reviewed publication of scholarly work related to PhD thesis, or in process, is required.
The successful candidate will be highly creative and self-motivated to produce high impact manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and developing and submitting NIH or similar grant applications.
Desired areas of expertise include: complex survey data, multilevel and longitudinal data structures, and advanced use of statistical software (Stata, SAS, R). It is also desirable for the applicant to have interest and expertise in the field of tobacco control or other related substance abuse disorders.
Specific Duties and Areas of Responsibility:
Statistical analysis of data from epidemiologic studies and/or population surveys, and the reporting of the findings in research papers for peer-reviewed scientific journals. Assistance in grant development. Participation in scholarly activities in the Center of Social Epidemiology and Population Health, including attendance of biweekly seminars, and presentations in this seminar as well as other venues in the School of Public Health and at the University of Michigan. The postdoctoral research fellowship consists of an initial appointment for one year, renewable for a second year, contingent upon satisfactory job performance. The position is available immediately but starting date is negotiable.
