The Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) Lung Cancer Genetic Epidemiology Lab seeks to recruit a highly motivated, collaborative, and talented postdoctoral fellow with knowledge of epidemiology, biostatistics, and/or human genetics. We seek an individual to conduct novel research in multi-level statistical analyses to address lung cancer disparities. The Lung Cancer Genetic Epidemiology Lab is a research group that focuses on understanding the role of social, environmental, and genetic factors influencing lung cancer. Current projects include statistical modeling to address disparities in lung cancer screening, identification of mechanisms of lung cancer disparities, genetics of immunotherapy response, improving racial diversity in lung cancer clinical trials, and population genetic modeling. We are particularly interested in candidates from diverse backgrounds who share an interest in health disparities research. The successful candidate will have access to a rich training environment, experienced mentors, and the opportunity to develop methodology and perform analyses across multiple large-scale projects.
• Contribute to the intellectual environment of the lab.
• Work with Dr. Melinda Aldrich, MPH, PhD and Dr. Sunil Rao, PhD to develop novel statistical methodology using multi-level data to address cancer disparities.
• Assist with written reports, research grant applications, and articles for publication.
• Assist with visualization of data for manuscripts, grants, and presentations.
• Present at national conferences.
• Provide guidance to graduate and undergraduate students.
• Maintain transparent analysis practices.
• Ph.D. degree in a relevant field (biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, genetics, data science, etc.) with demonstrated ability to develop methodology and analyze complex datasets.
• The candidate must have a passion for health disparities and for using data to advance healthcare and population health.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, excellent verbal, and written communication skills, plus an enthusiasm for developing collaborative partnerships are required.
• Proficiency/experience in R package development is highly desired.
• Knowledge of complex trait genomics and epidemiologic principles is preferred.
• Research experience in social determinants of health, disparities, genetic epidemiology, social and behavioral sciences, health policy, geography, and/or demography is desired.
• Experience in multi-level modeling and geospatial analyses desirable.
