We are seeking applications from strong candidates for a new post-doctoral fellowship position in Cancer Epidemiology in the Public Health Sciences Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The post-doctoral fellow will work directly with Drs. Polly Newcomb and Ulrike Peters on multiple NIH funded large-scale molecular epidemiological studies for colorectal cancer risk and survival. These projects include discovery of novel gene-environment interactions, integrative tumor analyses, and risk prediction modeling. Through international collaborative efforts we have developed large-scale molecular and genetic data in over 150,000 participants of increasing racial and ethnic diversity, including genome-wide genetic data, large-scale targeted tumor sequencing (including microbiome data), and harmonized detailed epidemiological, lifestyle and clinical data.

The successful applicant will work on a highly collaborative multidisciplinary research team to perform cutting edge analyses, implement novel statistical methodology, incorporate functional genetic information, and publish research results as first author. Opportunities also exist for grant writing, study management, training of junior trainees, and contributing to other manuscripts as co-author. The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center provides a challenging academic and supportive multi-disciplinary research environment and the fellow will be able to take full advantage of training, education, and mentorship opportunities offered through the Center. Please note that this is not a laboratory-based position.

A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required. The position requires a highly motivated individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills who can work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment. Expertise in analyses of molecular and genetic data and computational methods for the analysis of complex, high-dimensional genotype data is desirable. Extensive efforts are made to identity and attempt to recruit underrepresented minority trainees. Of the 25 trainees supported by this training grant over the past 5 years, 7 were underrepresented minorities.
