School Overview:
Rutgers Global Health Institute’s main office is located on the Rutgers campus in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The institute was founded in 2017 and is a vibrant, multidisciplinary organization dedicated to scholarly collaboration and research that focuses on critical questions related to health care access, health services, population health, and health equity.

Rutgers Global Health Institute’s core and affiliate members include over 100 outstanding faculty and professionals who have generated award-winning scholarship that has influenced fields such as infectious diseases, women’s and gender studies, biomedical informatics, epidemiology, health systems, environmental and ecological science, and translational medicine. Faculty also are actively involved in mentoring future scholars at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Rutgers Global Health Institute’s main office is housed in a 57,000-square-foot, custom-built academic and research facility located in the heart of New Brunswick, an ethnically diverse city with easy access to public transportation to New York City and Philadelphia as well as major international airports, train lines, and bus terminals.
Position Summary
Rutgers Global Health Institute invites applications for faculty positions that focus on cancer care and prevention in Sub-Saharan Africa. In the rapidly changing health care landscape and the institute’s focus on health equity, we are seeking committed investigators at assistant or associate/full professor level (tenured or tenure tracked) to join RGHI and the appropriate affiliated Rutgers school or health system to contribute to rigorous science and knowledge development. Faculty are anticipated to engage in research and scholarly activities, but residence location is not restricted to New Jersey.
Successful candidates are expected to establish innovative, collaborative research programs, and express a strong commitment to the graduate and medical education missions of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. Responsibilities include a combination of research, educational and clinical care duties (if relevant). Teaching responsibilities may include didactic lectures to fellows, residents, medical and/or graduate students, and nursing staff. Interdisciplinary scientists are desired.
Research programs at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the State of New Jersey’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, include Cancer Metabolism and Growth, Genomic Instability and Cancer Genetics, Cancer Pharmacology, Clinical Investigations and Precision Therapeutics, and Cancer Prevention and Control.
Successful candidates are likely to collaborate with or share an appointment with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Collaboration with existing research teams in sub-Saharan Africa is a possibility but not a requirement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts research in cancer care and prevention in sub-Saharan Africa
Directs and advises the work of trainees and faculty colleagues in cancer care and prevention
Participates in the development and delivery of curricula and training that will advance cancer care and prevention in sub-Saharan Africa
Is a strong advocate for populations in LMICs
Understands and adheres to legacy UMDNJ’s compliance standards as they appear in legacy UMDNJ’s Corporate Compliance Policy and Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Candidates for Assistant Professor should have strong research potential (as demonstrated by relevant publications and funding potential).
Candidates for Associate Professor should have a strong track record of research publication and funding.
Candidates for Full Professor position should have a track record of research, publication, and funding that distinguishes them, nationally or internationally, as leaders in cancer care and prevention.
Interested applicants should have an MD or PhD degree and relevant postdoctoral training with an exceptional publication record. Applicants should have a track record in working with populations in LMICs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent research/publication record
Track record in working with populations in LMICs
Post-doctoral training in some aspect of cancer research
Experience leading, supervising and/or working with multidisciplinary research teams
Demonstrated teaching excellence
Experience designing and developing online population health coursework
Strong communication, writing, problem solving and interpersonal abilities
Additional Qualifications:
The position is not contingent on subsequent residency in NJ or US citizenship.
