Closing Date: 10/25/2022
The Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, is seeking to recruit accomplished and extramurally-funded investigators to join the Population Science and Prevention Program (PSP). The program seeks investigators with a strong track record of impactful discoveries in areas that will complement the PSP Program’s focus on reducing the burden of cancer in South Texas. The selected candidate will lead a productive research program, participate in mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and potentially clinical residents and fellows. An attractive startup package is available. Candidates must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree and appropriate academic experience. Tenure status and faculty rank will be determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist candidate. The ability to run a vigorous independent research program and to collaborate with other investigators and clinicians is critical.
Departmental appointment will be dependent on the candidate’s background and academic area of focus, with opportunities including the Department of Population Health Sciences (PHS) under the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine. The department of PHS includes twenty-one faculty from diverse disciplines (e.g., social and behavioral sciences, epidemiology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, health systems science, and clinical informatics). Active areas of research include social determinants of health, cancer survivorship, and cancer health disparities.
The UT Health San Antonio is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution and is a Tier One research institution. It is home to an NIH-funded Clinical Translational Science Award, the Center for Biomedical Neuroscience, and the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute. The UT San Antonio, San Antonio Military Medical Center, Texas Biomedical Research Institute, Southwest Research Institute, and the Audie Murphy VA Hospital are area institutions that partner with Health Science Center faculty to catalyze the local biomedical research enterprise.
