Job Information/Description:
The Division of Public Health Sciences (PHS) of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) welcomes applications for an open rank Faculty position in our Cancer Epidemiology Program. We are looking for individuals with innovative ideas and strong methodologic skills in epidemiological research to add to the breadth of expertise of our faculty. Areas of strategic growth include but are not limited to the following: social determinants of health, geospatial and environmental studies, physical activity, immunoepidemiology, molecular and genetic epidemiology, exposome assessment, integrative tumor epidemiology, and the use of novel biomedical data sources including electronic health records and mobile technologies. We specifically encourage individuals with an interest in becoming the Epidemiology Program Head to apply. For the appropriate candidate, this position will provide leadership opportunities involving strategic planning and mentoring our next generation of scientists. Our outstanding research environment and resources provide a strong foundation for all candidates to develop and conduct an independent research program.
The Cancer Epidemiology Program encompasses 20 regular and joint faculty and is home to a long-standing, top-ranked Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program cancer registry for Western Washington. Our research is focused on reducing cancer incidence, progression, mortality, and sequalae through the identification of risk (or protective) factors, the elucidation of underlying biologic mechanisms, and the translation of discoveries into intervention strategies. Through population, laboratory, and clinic-based studies, the faculty aim to uncover knowledge that can inform and improve cancer etiology, risk prediction, prevention, early detection, prognostication, survival and overall health.
The Cancer Epidemiology Program is part of the Fred Hutch’s Division of Public Health Sciences, home of an extensive portfolio of population science research, large specimen and data repositories, multiple coordinating centers overseeing cross-disciplinary research programs, a prevention center designed for intervention research, and a large trans-disciplinary faculty. The Fred Hutch, together with the University of Washington, and Seattle Children’s is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with active training programs for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. An appointment with the University of Washington is possible, depending on qualifications and interests.
Fred Hutch is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.
With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world’s deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.
At Fred Hutch, we believe that the innovation, collaboration, and rigor that result from diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems. Fred Hutch is in pursuit of becoming an antiracist organization. We are committed to ensuring that all candidates hired share our commitment to diversity, antiracism, and inclusion.
