The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) at the Penn State College of Medicine is seeking applicants to fill a tenure-eligible position at the rank of either Associate Professor or Full Professor within the Division of Epidemiology, the Department of Public Health Sciences. The candidate for this senior faculty position will have expertise in cancer epidemiology and serve as the Associate Director for Population Science in the Penn State Cancer Institute (PSCI).

The Department consists of three academic divisions, namely, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, and Health Services and Behavioral Research. There are more than 60 faculty members in the Department (34 tenured/ tenure-eligible) and more than 70 support staff members. PHS provides a strong infrastructure for its faculty members in the areas of biostatistics, study design, data management, research computing, project management, and finance and administration. PHS offers five Graduate programs, namely, PhD in Epidemiology, PhD in Biostatistics, Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), and Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Research, as well as several Graduate Certificate programs.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the Department’s research and education programs by developing an externally-funded research program in Cancer Epidemiology. Opportunities are available for collabora- tions with researchers in PHS, the PSCI, and other College of Medicine clinical and basic science departments. The successful candidate is expected to teach a graduate-level course in Cancer Epidemiology, and mentoring graduate students is expected.

The PSCI Associate Director for Population Science role is a leadership position. The Associate Director will integrate relevant multidisciplinary/transdisciplinary expertise in a variety of PSCI research programs into an innovative, coor- dinated cancer control research program. The Associate Director will participate in key decision making committees related to resource allocation, strategy, recruitment, and institutional initiatives related to cancer research.

The successful candidate should possess a doctoral degree in Epidemiology or a related discipline. Candidates with strong NIH funding and publication records are highly desirable. With its location in Hershey, near Harrisburg, PA, PHS has a strong collaborative relationship with public health scientists and practitioners within the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
