THE SEARCH

The University of Arizona Cancer Center (the Cancer Center)—the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center headquartered in the state of Arizona—seeks a nationally recognized and dynamic leader to serve as its first permanent Associate Director of Population Sciences (AD). Holding the Maynard Chair in Prevention Research and serving on the senior leadership team of the Cancer Center, the successful candidate will build and develop the Cancer Center’s nationally recognized research in Population Sciences with the aim of reducing the cancer burden on its uniquely diverse 5-county catchment area, which includes significant Hispanic/Latino and Native American communities, low-income communities, communities residing in rural and frontier locations, and communities located near the U.S.-Mexico border.

The AD will be charged with developing a comprehensive vision for population-based research in cancer that builds on the Cancer Center’s existing strengths and further develops its ability to serve the diverse communities that reside within the catchment area. To achieve this vision, the AD will intentionally nurture existing relationships across the University of Arizona (UA), as well as those with external communities/partners, to strategically facilitate cross-disciplinary research that advances the mission of the Cancer Center. Partnering closely with senior leadership of the Cancer Center, the co-leaders of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program (CPCP), and other campus and community leaders, the AD will recruit and develop exceptional population-based researchers focused on increasing the Cancer Center’s impact on underserved and under-researched communities.

The AD will bring an extensive track record as a federally-funded investigator focused on population-based cancer research, along with a collaborative approach to leadership and a management style that supports the mentoring of junior investigators.

The Cancer Center has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist in the recruitment of the AD. Please submit all confidential inquiries, nominations, and applications through the Isaacson, Miller website: www.imsearch.com/8125.
