Job Information/Description:

Applied Research Scientist II at the Moffitt Cancer Center.

The Applied Research Scientist II is a non-tenure track researcher who serves as part of a research team under the direction of an Investigator in the Cancer Epidemiology department. The primary research area of the team is understanding the etiology of ovarian cancer, including conducting prospective observational molecular epidemiologic investigations of ovarian cancer risk and outcomes as well as a clinical trial in patients. The research team also oversees the data coordinating center for a large consortium studying ovarian cancer (https://www.theoc3.org/). The lab’s website is https://labpages2.moffitt.org/tworoger/.

Position Highlights:

Writes and prepares manuscripts for a variety of research studies.
Generates scientific sections of grant applications with appropriate guidance, including preliminary data, and supports development of budgets.
Manages the scientific advancement of multiple studies simultaneously.
Provides program management of complex research studies, including a large consortium of over 25 studies worldwide.
Contributes and pursues novel scientific ideas to the research team.
Works in a highly multi-disciplinary environment, interacting with a variety of different researchers.
The Ideal Candidate:

Demonstrated experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary environment.
In-depth knowledge of epidemiological research and methods.
Strong programming skills in a major analytic platform (e.g., SAS, R)
A critical, independent, and creative thinker.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
A professional, team-oriented, organized individual with research experience in the academic setting.
A commitment to reproducible and open science workflows.
Grant writing experience is highly desired.
Responsibilities:

Participates in the planning, implementation and conduct of research projects in collaboration with the overseeing Investigator. This includes contribution to preparation of grants, clinical protocols, progress reports, scientific manuscripts, data analysis, and daily management activities.
Trains new staff and serves as a resource to other projects within the laboratory under the Investigator’s direction. May work individually or may have significant oversight over other less experienced research personnel.
Assists in planning and developing research projects within the laboratory under the Investigator’s direction.
Maintains research skills and acquires new ones as necessary.
Maintains membership and regularly attends appropriate professional associations, conferences, workshops, lectures, and seminars as supported by the overseeing Investigators.
Maintains QA program, which includes maintaining familiarity with cutting edge laboratory trends and techniques.
Credentials and Qualifications:

Minimum of an M.D. or Ph.D. (or equivalent) in a discipline relevant to epidemiology, biostatistics, psychology, math, internal medicine, machine learning or related field.
Two years as an Applied Research Scientist or equivalent are required.
